Canadian Women in Food will "Stir You Up"!

On October 22nd we had the pleasure of showcasing some of our favourite canapés at an event organized by Canadian Women in Food, a community network that encourages women to participate and thrive in the food industry.  The focus of the night was a talk about Kickstarter fundraising led by Christine Manning, Founder of Manning Canning and Co-Founder of Manning Canning Kitchens. Within its first year of business, the 24-hour rental kitchen has aided the growth of a handful of small food businesses across Toronto, including Phat N' Phull!

Christine shared her Kickstarter story, along with some do's, dont's and how-to's about crowd funding. However, what inspired us most was her personal drive and fearless ability to make her vision a reality, not to forget the extensive planning that went with it!

The menu: Triple-decker grilled cheese with pimento cheese and tomato jam and oyster jambalaya rockefeller on the half shell.

Beautiful display of Thornloe cheese curated by Pamela Hamel! Thornloe is a Northern Ontario cheese company that is 100% farmer owned, that makes delicious cheese inspired by its hometown Temiskaming.

Christine being inspiring and lovely.

Our oyster jambalaya is one of our southern inspired snacks that we made rockefeller style with Thornloe's 2-year-old cheddar. Delicious when fresh out of the oven!

These were some of the best I've ever had, from Joli Macarons. Flavours include boozy bourbon, doppio espresso and super berry.

We don't seem to go anywhere without our grilled cheese these days! How could we not?

Did we mention Christine is also the chef of her preserves company?

Pop-up Dinner Series 2015

It's been an exciting year so far! In between vending at markets and catering private events we get to do what we love the most - host special themed dinners and invite our friends and families! We really tried to push ourselves to create interesting experiences for our guests through the two dinners we hosted this year."Just Like Mama Makes" was a prix fixe dinner inspired by the simple classic dishes we ate growing up, and "Southern Soiree" was a vintage cocktail party where we served southern inspired snacks and featured cocktails. We couldn't have accomplished either of these without our lovely hosts for each event! Here's a photo re-cap of them both:

Our talented friend Katrina Cervoni took the photos for our posters and the lovely Emma Sherman did our hair!

Carlos was half of our host team at Cafe Con Leche, who also make No. 7 Hot Sauce!

First course: Shaved crudite salad in a buttermilk ranch dressing.

Classic tomato soup with creme fraiche was served with the main course.

Our almost-famous triple decker grilled cheese sandwich with our homemade tomato jam and aged cheddar!

Dessert was a loaded banana split with a homemade ice cream trio, bruleed banana, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and candy dust.

Our other talented photographer friend Liza Semechko took our poster photo this time around, hair by Emma Sherman.

We had our homemade nuts & bolts snack bowls at each table for nibbles.

Oyster jamabalaya on the half shell.

Ted and Patty came all the way from Brampton!

Our spiced sweet potato bundt cakes with molasses icing.

Shrimp & grit hush puppies with creole spiced squash puree

Fried chicken wings with buttermilk ranch dressing and sour honey.

Beautiful Erika Morey!

What's a party without our triple decker grilled cheese!? This time we made our own pimento cheese.

Our team at the end of the night, they did great!

Stay tuned for more pop-ups in the new year!

Summer Market Round-up 2014!

Hello fellow food lovers,

This summer was a busy one for us! We joined forces with The Annex Flea and The Leslieville Flea's monthly markets, and brought you summer classic delights like our creamed corn dog, fried fish sammy, vanilla ice cream, chilli cheese popcorn, and a selection of bubbly lemonades!

With the arrival of fall, we've hung up our summer marketeer aprons, and to celebrate the food we made, the people we fed, and the friends we met, here's a photo re-cap of our summer at the markets!

Our very first market at The Annex Flea!

Fried halibut on a buttered pretzel bun with mango aioli, summer slaw and maldon salt.
Our creamed corn dog with homemade peach cider mustard and corn relish.

We carry this polaroid with us at every market!
July's edition of The Annex Flea.
This time we made grilled corn with jalapeño, cilantro and shallot sour cream, sprinkled with chili powder and paprika.
We bought this retro cake stand from our friends at Big Kev Vintage!
August at The Annex Flea. Our mojito and sangria lemonades were a huge hit.

We teamed up with Macchina Mobile Cafe to make this affogato with our vanilla ice cream and their delicious espresso.
September at The Leslieville Flea - What started off as a terrible rainy day quickly turned hot and sunny!
We were being swarmed by bees, and alannah killed nearly 40 of them! She is now known as the Bee Face Killah!
Mojito and sangria lemonade were a hit again!
September at The Annex Flea.

Vegan chili cheese popcorn, Maldon sea salt and peppercorn!
Grilled cheese with cider braised apples and applewood smoked cheddar. A delicious hit!
We tried out a peach tea lemonade with mint.

See you at the markets next year!
